The objectives of this class are to introduce students to the
analytical, experimental, and process engineering techniques that are
utilized to support environmental engineering decisions. Specifically,
we will examine the principles behind analytical and experimental
procedures, the importance of quality assurance and quality control, how
and why to critically evaluate data and perform data validation, examine
techniques to characterize the precision and accuracy of data, develop
"optimal" sampling and analytical procedures for specific projects, how
to conduct pilot-plant or bench-scale treatability studies, and examine
the management of environmental data generated in the laboratory or
field. When you finish this course you will have an understanding and
the basic capabilities to serve as a process engineer in water and
wastewater treatment evaluations.
